It Takes a Village: Pediatric Chiropractic Care

In the first post in our series, It Takes a Village, we highlight pediatric chiropractic care. Dr. Mikhaila and Dr. Shea from 920 Wellness Studio are enlightening us about the many benefits of this form of healthcare for our littlest population.

Chiropractors are health professionals who specialize in diagnosing and treating the musculoskeletal system disorders, primarily focusing on the spine. It is based on the concept that misalignments of the spine can interfere with nerve transmissions, resulting in physical pain and discomfort. Through gentle manipulation of joints, muscles and connective tissues, chiropractors restore balance to your body’s structure and help alleviate the pain and discomfort caused by these misalignments. What many may not know is that anyone can seek Chiropractic care, including babies!

Why would a baby be brought to see a Chiropractor?

There are multiple reasons! During the birthing process, especially with difficult births - misalignments of the baby's spine can occur. Chiropractors trained in pediatric care, use gentle techniques to adjust these misalignments to restore the normal alignment and range of motion of the spine and or other joints.

Another common reason someone might bring their baby in for Chiropractic care is colic and digestive issues. The nerves that innervate our organs and muscles stem from the spine. We believe that by adjusting the area of the spine where the correlating nerves to the organ of issue is, helps restore normal communication of those nerves to the organ. Lastly, even babies suffering from sleeping issues are brought to seek chiropractic care! Adjustments can help relax the body and improve overall comfort, leading to better sleep.
