The Helmet Journey From the Words of Parents Who’ve Been There

The decision to utilize a helmet is a tough one! While we are here to empower, educate, and support you throughout the journey, we love to ask those who’ve been there - the parents and caregivers - all about their experience with a helmet.
Here are a few things they have said about their helmet journey.

What emotions were you experiencing before you found Baby Bear?

  • Nervous, worried, scared, a bit of anxiety.

  • Sad, defeated, feeling of being inexperienced.

  • Frustration, guilt.

  • As first time parents we felt like we were doing something wrong for our son to need a helmet.

How did you feel when you first saw the helmet on your baby?

  • A little nervous but he was cute in it!

  • He was cute but still missed cuddling with his soft head.

  • Honestly I felt guilty for failing him.

  • He was still so adorable and I was hopeful that his head shape would improve.

  • I remember feeling so sad that we wouldn’t have bare head kisses with our girl, but we sure soaked it all in during the hour break. She was so cute with it on and the bow that was recommended made her even cuter!

  • He was very handsome in it, I was excited to get started in the right direction.

  • Sad that he had to keep the helmet on 23 hours a day. Sometimes something new or different can be scary. Especially if you’re new parents. He did look pretty cute though!

  • Sad and happy- we were glad to be taking the step to help our son in the future.

What was it like having your baby wear a helmet?

  • Definitely not as bad as I thought. He took to the helmet right away and it really wasn’t hard to get used to.

  • My son didn’t even care about it the minute we put it on him.

  • The only struggle we had was skin irritation.

  • Overall it was a much easier experience than I anticipated. My baby adjusted quickly and the helmet didn’t seem to bother him.

  • Karlie handled it very well. There was a bit of time where we needed to get used to putting it on, but she showed no signs of regression and handled it beautifully!

  • Taking on/off the helmet was not a fun time in our house but our baby generally didn’t mind having it on!

  • Our experience was great, our son adjusted like a rockstar. In the beginning it was harder on us as parents compared to our son.

How do you feel about the results after treatment?

  • Extremely satisfied! Worth every penny!

  • Good. I wish it would have been more “perfect” or knew about head flattening before he was 4 months old.

  • I’m satisfied and very happy that we went through with the treatment.

  • I was so happy with the results. You would never be able to tell that she had a flat spot and, because we took early action, she didn't have to wear the helmet for too long.

  • Very good! You can’t tell he ever had a flat spot.

  • Over the moon happy with the results!

  • He could be a head model!

Looking back, how would you describe the helmeting experience?

  • A great investment.

  • It’s not as difficult as people make it out to be.

  • Smells like a dirty shin guard but overall smooth and easy.

  • In the grand scheme of things it was a quick blip on our timeline. Fortunately it was a smooth experience.

  • Despite all the initial tears, fear, and unknown, we couldn’t be more grateful for all that the helmet did to correct our girls head shape. Time flew by and what seemed so scary, truly was not.

  • It’s such a fast process and we’ve learned on resilient babies truly can be. The process was interesting and so worth it.

What is one thing you would tell parents who are just starting the helmet journey?

  • Do it. It’s not as bad as you think!

  • Babies care less than the parents do.

  • Be patient. Results don’t happen overnight. Put your trust into the Baby Bear staff. They are excellent at what they do!

  • It’ll be over before you know it and you’ll be so happy with the results!

  • Take the leap, the unknown can be terrifying, but it will absolutely be worth it in the end.

  • Take it day by day. Soon it will just be a part of the routine and it will feel strange when it’s over
